Personal Resilience and Mindfulness

Mental ill health is the single biggest cause of sickness in the UK affecting 1 in 5 of the working population.  Over 105 million days are lost to stress each year, costing employers £1.24 billion.

Secret Stress ...  A report conducted by Insurance firm LV surveyed 2000 workers found that 54% of workers would not admit to having stress and would say they were suffering from another illness for fear of stigma - 7/10 workers went back to work early because of guilt and almost one in six continued working despite their diagnosis of stress.

Our Personal Resilience courses are designed to help to reduce HR stress related costs by empowering people with an understanding of how their mind works in relation to the stress they are experiencing, and how with a few simple strategies and changes in thinking they can increase the resilience they have in relation to pressures at home and at work.

"I attended the 1 hour resilience session 3 months ago and I haven't had a panic attack since!  I feel so much more able to cope Thank You!"

Nicky (NHS Receptionist)

"We've had amazing feedback, Staff keep coming back saying they have had a 'light bulb moment' surprised at how easy it is for them..."

HR at Alder Hey NHS

We have been working with Alder Hey NHS Trust delivering 1 hour 'Personal Resilience' sessions. Stress scores were taken before and after the session.  Following the session, participants reported feeling a 68% reduction in stress on average.  Follow up revealed an increase in the ability to cope with stress, and a positive change in thinking with a more resilient outlook.  Furthermore, many reported a significant improvement with regards to sleep.

“I slept really well for the first time in years – not an exaggeration, so thank you and I have already recommended you to colleagues.  Looking forward to future sessions, please book me on.”

“I did enjoy yesterday’s session, Went home all chilled and had a lovely evening with the kids in the garden, didn’t even bat an eyelid when my 7 year old got stroppy! I did the relaxation when I went to bed and fell asleep straight away and slept really well  - my son woke me up at 4.30 and I felt well rested – haven’t even needed the caffeine I normally crave after early wake ups! If I can get time to attend more sessions I’d like to come – especially for the mindfulness – I forget to be mindful if you know what I mean? It needs to become something I do as a habit  - but until I start remembering to do it that part is hard!”

“Can I just say thank you very much for the session I had this morning.  It made me feel so much more ready to take on the day. I came out of the room feeling refreshed.  I would definitely recommend this to other colleagues at Alder Hey, so much so that my line manager has authorised for myself and a colleague to attend the sessions.”

"I really didn't know what to expect at the session but it made me feel really settled and at ease through out the whole session. Found the session really useful, with good advise on how to tackle the daily stresses we face in all aspects of our lives. Would recommend these sessions to anyone."

I found the mindfulness session extremely useful not just for in work but also to help me deal with stresses in my personal life, I left the session feeling like a new man. The amazing part of the session was not just learning about mindfulness but about other avenues of wellbeing. I found the instruct welcoming, knowledgeable, insightful and understanding. I would recommend everyone to do one of these sessions and I would defiantly say it’s the best thing I have done at the Hospital.
